This Carex is more commonly found south and east of Washington State. It is only known from a few locations in Washington including this site near Mt. Tiffany and also near Mt. McCay. It is listed by the Washington Natural Heritage Progam as a sensitive species. It is similar in form and habitat to the more common Carex rossii- but differing in a number of features including a shorter lower bract of the inflorescence which is inconspicuous.
