© 2010 Thayne Tuason. Photo taken near Quincy Lakes and Babcock Bench, Grant County, Washington. Seemingly a twin of Balsamorhiza sagittata technical characters separate the two. The easiest way to tell the difference is that B. sagittata has leaves that are covered with fine soft hairs- making the leaves appear grayer in color, while B. careyana has some hairs but they are bristly making the leaves feel more like sandpaper. B. careyana's leaves are a more vivid green as well because of the lack of hairs.
