mucilaginous when moistened

alternate, entire, linear to lanceolate; lower leaves similar to others


Plant:

annual; most are single stemmed, erect


Habitat:

widespread, seldom at high elevations


Distribution of species:

chiefly east Cascades; California to Alaska, eastern North America, Arizona; naturalized elsewhere
