Flowers:

corolla tube bent to an angle at base; corolla 4 to 8 mm, blue with a white upper lip; 4 stamens enclosed in the central lobe of the lower corolla lip, upper filaments glabrous; sepals connate below; calyx lobes acute to acuminate


Fruit:

generally 4 seeded; seeds with thickened, inrolled margins


Leaves:

opposite, more or less linear-lanceolate


Plant:

annual, 3 to 40 cm tall (usually less than 15 cm).


Habitat:

common in low to middle elevations


Distribution of species:

British Columbia to California, east to Colorado and eastern Canada
