Flowers:

primary branches of the inflorescence 4 or more, not leafy bractate; involucres tomentose; perianth 3 to 5 mm, yellow and becoming reddish with age, pubescent externally, outer segments of the perianth wider than the inner segments, perianth not stipe-like or attenuated at the base

all basal; blade 5 to 20 mm, ovate, woooly-greyish on both surfaces


Plant:

10 to 35 cm tall; growing in mats 10 to 40 cm in diameter


Habitat:

sagebrush desert to Ponderosa Pine forest

Chelan County, Washington to northeast California, southern Idaho, and Nevada
