Flowers:

1 to 5 flowers per plant; corolla saucer-shaped or rotate, 1.5 to 3 cm wide, white and sometimes marked with purple; corolla tube hairy within; filaments shorter than the corolla; ovary hairy; 1 style; 2 stigmas


Fruit:

many seeded, seeds reddish brown


Leaves:

1 to 7 cm long, less than 2 cm wide, entire; glabrous on lower surface, upper surface glabrous or hairy


Plant:

perennial; scapose.


Habitat:

meadows, swales and moist open slopes from valleys and plains to foothills and mountains


Distribution of species:

Washington to California in the east Cascades, east to Montana, Utah, and Arizona


Distribution of genus:

2 species: western United States and northern Mexico
