Flowers:

mosly blue to purple in color; 9 to 14 mm long; wing petals pubescent near tip; calyx spurred above pedicel; banner not pubescent on upper third

Leaves:

pubescent on upper surface, but less than below; obtuse or rounded at the tips of the leaflets


Plant:

perennial


Habitat:

in sagebrush and ponderosa pine forest


Distribution of species:

in the east Cascades Washington to California, east to Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Nevada

more or less 200 species: North America, South America, and Mediterranean
