Flowers:

corolla 9 to 17 mm, blue; corolla limb generally 1.2 to 1.6 times as long as the tube; anthers 2.2 to 3.4 mm


Leaves:

principle cauline leaves generally rounded at the base and more or less petiolate, with evident lateral veins


Plant:

40 to 150 cm when developed, relatively tall and robust; usually numerous stems per plant


Habitat:

generally growing along streams and in wet meadows


Distribution of species:

boreal species, south to west central Montana, central Idaho, and central and south west Oregon, mostly not west of the Cascades except in the Olympic Mountains


Distribution of genus:

more or less 50 species: North America and temperate Eurasia
