Habitat: light to deep woods, especially in moist areas or on rotting wood, lowlands to mountains |

Distribution of species: southern Alaska to California east and west of the Cascades, east to eastern Canada and Pennsylvania and in the Rocky Mountain states to New Mexico Distribution of genus: more or less 20 species: generally circumboreal, and
in high mountains of Central America
