Flowers:

inflorescence with pilose, eglandular hairs, flowers usually greater than 10 in a scapose panicle; ovary greater than half superior; petals white, all alike

all basal; blade 1.5 to 8 cm wide, broader than long, many toothed, reniform or cordate at the base; stipules narrow and non-sheathing

perennial


Habitat:

mountain streams and wet areas


Distribution of species:

Southern Alaska to Oregon, and in Eurasia

more or less 400 species: especially in cool northern temperate regions
