Fruit:

cones 1.5 to 2.5 cm long


Leaves:

unequal length needles, 5 to 20 mm long, nearly flat, tip rounded to blunt; upper surface green, lower surface whitish


Plant:

mature bark thin, reddish brown with narrow grooves between broad ridges. Cambium made into coarse bread by the Shuswap. Infusion of bark taken for colds by the Thompson.


Habitat:

from the coast to 5,000 ft in the mountains, especially where it is moist
