Flowers:

outer flowers of the inflorescence enlarged, 1.5 to 2.5 cm wide, lacking stamens or pistils, inner flowers bisexual and fertile


Fruit:

red drupe, 1 seeded


Leaves:

opposite; generally trilobed, the lobes coarsely toothed or entire


Plant:

shrubs or small trees. The berries were eaten raw or made into a jelly by the Shuswap.


Habitat:

moist woods
